Music is powerful. Frederick Delius once expressed music to be an eruption of emotions. To him, ‘Music is an outburst of the soul’. Music is the world’s greatest therapy, always ready to trigger an emotional response. Songs can elate, sadden, trigger and provoke. As the expectancy for good revealing music rises in the listeners, so also it is with the musicians. Of all genres and forms of entertainment made available, music stands out in its synchronization with the soul. It is beyond the realm of the known how music can evoke our laughter, fear, and other aspirations. In this article, we would be considering music composition: its significance and influences on the human mind.

There’s a powerful influence music tend to exert on the human mind. The lyrics alone can be a source of influence on a man’s reflection. Subconsciously one can become a product of what he listens to. Music in various ways helps in the development of our brain cells. Research has it that there is a direct impact music has on the nervous system which affects the heartbeat, here is why: when we listen to music, our brain reverberate with the beats. That is, the more we listen to fast and vibrant songs, the more sharp, concentrated and increased in thinking we become. On the other hand, when slow and calm music is being listened to, the more relaxed our mind becomes in its restful state. Songs with rather abusive content or lyrics can be a negative influence on the mind of children. Music furthermore has an effect on man’s ability to memorize. Years ago my Sunday school teacher used a song to teach us the books of the Bible and even today, it still rings in my mind.

Decades ago our forefathers through music created social cohesion and togetherness. Through the instruments played, people were being able to be called upon easily and could be alerted if in danger. As a universal language that brings people together, music is unity. It is been used as a vehicle for civic modification. Singing or music generally is such a powerful glue, strong enough to generate bonds and even form communities. At the discovery that an individual fancies the same song we appreciate, we tend to think highly and better of them. This is what music does, it literally and figuratively makes you feel empathic and socially connected to humanity.

Although, there is a genre for all despite the numerous variations available. Whether at the karaoke bar, singing to your favorite song, or as an artist performing on stage, one thing is sure, it can never be a boring moment, there’s this joy felt within that comes from the symphony. It is not farfetched that music is pleasurable, an enormous social magnet that comes with its own buzz.

Innovative creations have been made to sync with the modern demands for music and it’s so beautiful to watch the progression.

Since music is said to have a cognitive impact, we could also consider it having an impact in the aspect of creative thinking. I have witnessed a firsthand effect of music indicating its usefulness and value. A personal encounter would be when I write, there are certain songs I choosily listen to, according to the genre being written and it triggers my thinking process accurately. Lastly music also establishes an outlet or stage for individuals from all scene of life to express themselves and get their voices heard.
