MR. COMMISSIONER

  • Dear Commissioner,

It was only but yesterday

When you sang war chants against the men who sat round the table

Ah! dear distinguished

We chorused your lyrics and followed the rhythms

Your voice did echo the mind of the voiceless.

  • Mr. Commissioner,

It was only but yesterday

When the deeds of these buglers made us turn in our wooden beds

These torns in our flesh made life a living nightmare

But we carried on in the call for change

We had you who knew where the shoe pinches

Your voice did echo the mind of the voiceless.

  • Mr. Commissioner,

At midnight we began to voice our fears

Accepting their invites and welcoming their gifts would trap you, we cried

Your camouflage smile assured us of loyalty and renewed hope

So we still lifted our placards, but you barely led the show again.

  • Mr. Commissioner,

This morning, we heard of your appointment

Ah, dear distinguished

You promised our interest as your priority

Now you keep your distance and heighten your security

The once mocked table, you now lead

And yet, your people still bleed
