TIPS ON HOW TO EFFECIVELY EMAIL A CV

Have you ever been in questionable situations where you query why you don’t get shortlisted for interviews or why you don’t get picked in at least 2 out of every 10 applications? Well don’t feel troubled anymore, help is here.

WHY YOU DON’T GET FEEDBACKS FROM JOB APPLICATIONS?

More than often, these mails aren’t been replied because you are not disseminating them to your potential employers like you should.

The composure, format and template is a determinant whether or not your mail will be opened. This writing exposes the numerous flaws and errors made by individuals while applying for a job role. These errors can cost you not to be selected among those chosen for interviews.

Your CV might be meticulous and your cover letter, accurate. Yet it is possible for your mail not to be accessed due to two or more mistakes from your end.

The next question is:

HOW SHOULD MY EMAIL LOOK LIKE WHILE APPLYING FOR A JOB ROLE?

Under this umbrella, you might want to ask yourself what features your CV should embody and what common errors you have been making in the past.

COMMON ERRORS MADE WHILE APPLYING FOR JOB ROLES

Mistakes and poor formats are errors bound to happen when one isn’t conversant with using the email as a means for application. The following discussed are the common errors made by today’s applicants via the mail.

  • Timing is one error job seekers make. They refuse to be strategic about their search for jobs. Timing is very crucial when sending your CV via email, it is sa that applying on a Monday gives you greater chances at been called for an interview. Your CV can be submitted between the early hours of 7am -12pm as it is a start of a new week. I once read that when submitting your resumé, you should try as much as possible to avoid submitting on a Friday. The only reason you can try Fridays out is only when there’s a deadline.
  • Secondly, many job seekers are ignorant of the fact that the subject line corner, when sending a mail, shouldn’t be left bare. This is where the job role is indicated. Most recruiters are mainly specific on what your subject line should include. They could demand that you use the job title as the subject. In a situation where the subject line is not given, your name and job title should be included, so that it leaves no room for oversight. Make sure to attach your CV and cover letter. Ensure that your CV is sent in pdf format. Confirm that the attachment is renamed before hitting that send icon. This is for quick identification, your attachment’s name comes first before the hiring officer opens your document. For instance, yours could be ‘Akinbo Caroline Resume’., your first name and last name is your identity.
  • Completely avoid saving your attachment with common names like “CV” or “Resumé”.
  • Last but not the least, ensure that you write an email message to send alongside your CV. Employ the use of common greetings and salutations at the start of your mail. The hiring manager should be addressed by his/her first name, ‘Dear Bisi’. In a situation where the hiring manager’s name isn’t available, a substition can be made using, ‘Dear Hiring Manager’. Be clear on the position it is you’re applying for as well as mention that your CV and cover letter are attached. Suggest your availability for interviews and express your eagerness to meet in person. These are effective strategies aimed at getting that job you’ve always longed for. Do it right.
